Link to CPGNuCalendar problem

Post Posted: Sat Apr 24, 2010 3:31 pm

I guess this could equally apply to all versions but only just noticed it. When editing an article that has a link to a calendar event the dates in the event start and event end boxes are out by 6 hours - presumably the difference between server time (for me anyway) and local time. The time is actually saved as some different time when it edits the calendar entry (out by 5 hours?!)

You have 2 problems here I think - 1 each mine and yours! Wink

The first one you reference is possibly that you are using an earlier version of CPGNuCalendar, or if you are using v2.1.0 then you may not have set the new Calendar Time Zone parameter in Calendar Settings - v. easy to miss if you upgrade to v2.1.0 vs install for first time.

The 2nd is I fear mine, but I've never got around to narrowing down the specifics, as only 2 sites that I'm aware of use this, and yours is the only active one! The problem is caused - in my case anyway - when the edit is done during DST/Summer Time and the event is not, or vice versa, and the user and server are in same time zone - I think. Does that fit your case? It means that I have to treat the above as a special case, and not correct for the 1 hour spring forward/fall back because the clock change is going to correct both simultaneously. (Or do the user and server just have to be in same hemisphere?)

I have the time zone set correctly

Nope - I can add a link in summer time and the problem still exists. It seems to be 5 hours out most of the time. Where is the code that links to CPGnuCalendar and I'll take a look?

It the last routine to Save the article, ie. just before Preview mode starts in admin_article function in admin_functions.php and submit_article function in functions.php.

OK - had a quick look. Think it's way above my pay grade. I'll have a play next week and see exactly what is being written into the db because it is wrong. I also note (on a similar theme) that CPGNuCalendar can't cope with events going over the end of the day; a 5 hour event starting at 2000 will finish at 2500 not 0100!

Always been that way, you have to select a multi-day event. I thought that Pro_News did that for you automatically?

So, still trying to get this to work.

I've added a link from an article, selecting 10 - 18 on a certain day (link on pro_news says times are GMT+1. When I look at the entry in the calendar the times are 15-19, which is bizarre!

Also the link to originating article is showing as

Code:
 {url=Pro_News/aid=.html}

so doesn't work..

So a 5 hour time diff. The minute diff is probably just rounding effects.

Your GMT+1 right? The server is in which country/time zone? And do you know which time setting it uses - GMT or local time?

And what Calendar Time Zone setting have you set in CPGNuCalendar? (New feature in latest release 2.1.0.)

Sorry, those were the hours - 1000-1800 became 1500-1900. The server is in the states so presumably GMT-5. CPGNuCalendar is set to Europe-Paris.

By the way date/time routines try to figure out what tz you say you are in, so if you have set your profile timezone in DF (forums part) to server time rather than French summer time, then you will be seeing everything 5 hours adrift.

Aren't you GMT+2 at the moment? Ie. BST+1 ... DO you have summer time set?

What is your DF server time zone set to? Essentially the one for Anonymous user.

Forums timezone is set to Paris too - GMT+1. There doesn't seem to be an option to set summer time anywhere so yes, it should be GMT+2 but I don't want to have to change it twice a year!

OK.

Now what about your profile settings - under My Account > My Preferences. That one should have DST option (Unix servers usually do not bother with it, which is why it's not in Forums Config.)

Any idea if your server itself is on GMT or CST? Ie. does it show a time in Cpanel, FTP, Shell, etc.? Conventionally they use GMT, but some hosts don't - probably because that have servers scattered around the globe. My California one uses local time ( my UK one is GMT of course Sad )

I've set DST now under my account.. Don't know how many people would do that though! Don't suppose there's a way of doing it automatically?

I believe the server is set to EST (GMT-4).
