Want a New Website? We'll Develop a Website that You can Maintain

You want a new/replacement website?

But these questions - or ones very much like them - are at the forefront of your mind?
You are through with "static" websites which never change, and seem to go "out of date" almost overnight?
But you simply can't afford to always have someone on staff - or on contract - to keep your website up-to-date for you?
And you yourself simply don't have the time, inclination or even the skill to build the sort of website that you really want for yourself?
But you worry that if you don't build it yourself, how are you possibly going to know how to change it yourself?
Up to now these questions have represented real concerns, and reflect the way the Internet has jumped in terms of both technology and expectations in the last 3-5 years. The World Wide Web now seems to be spinning too fast for newcomers to safely jump up. But don't worry, there is a solution...

Pro_News 3.2.1 FC Slider & Nasty Bug Fix

Pro_News 3.2.1 is available.

Included are the Featured Content Slider which can be used to display a large number of pictures in a small space, as a slideshow alternative or both, and a Coppermine hack to allow Batch Upload without resorting to ftp. Plus a few small improvements, details on download page.

Demo of the "Featured Content" Slider

A screen shot of the final version of the (future) Featured Content Slider is on the left, but you can test out a live version in the demo below. (Click read more to view.) This Slider was created by simply selecting a Photo Album, as previously, and using a brand new template. No changes to the Submit Article user interface at all. Now, instead of the Photo Album images appearing as separate images on the page as before, they appear in a single Slider. No formating or anything else special for the submitter to do!

Featured Content Template

As any of you who've been following will know, I wanted to add a "Featured Content" like display into Pro_News. (If you don't know what I mean by Featured Content, then do a search on DragonflyCMS for the post by greenday2k, or take a look at the original developers Dynamic Drive.)

Anyway, I've got it working, see screen capture alongside. Note this is ENTIRELY done in Pro_News template, no change to Pro_News code at all. A strong vindication as to the power of Pro_News templates!

Pro_News 3.1 Now Available to Sponsors & Members

Just to let everyone know that the latest and greatest Pro_News is now available, initially just for Sponsors, but now for all Registered Members

A lot of small but useful enhancements mostly, the sort of thing which makes building and running the site easier, even if you can't actually put your finger on exactly what changed. Most every annoyance I found when building Pro_News centric websites have been addressed, all minor though I must say, along with all the enhancements requested.

Plus the Submit Article screen has been made much more approachable.

Pro_News Updated to 3.0.0.1

Please update to the latest release. v3.0.0.1 fixes an issue with display on the Home page if multiple Sections are used with differing templates. Unfortunately an error crept into to the 3.0 release just before release, when adding "No Article" error messages for Admins. The new release totally changes and improves the method used to display multiple templates on the same page, to prevent the display issues.

Announcing Pro_News Sponsors' Forum

This is to announce a new forum dedicated to a group of members who have gone out of their way to help bring Pro_News to the community. Either by extensive testing, writing code, translating, or donating funds to help me develop Pro_News. In many cases these members have done most or all of the above.

This new forum is my way of saying thanks to these individuals. In the forum I'll be providing some snippets on how I use Pro_News, and few tricks to get the very best out of a Pro_News based website.

Newsletter_Pro mod with Pro_News support released

Article originally posted by gallowglas on Wednesday, December 17, 2008 (09:40:25) as a forum post

Hi ...

I made this mod some time ago, but I forgot about it. (thanks Robert for reminding me)
I modified Newsletter_Pro V3.4.5 to work with DF9.2.x and Pro_News 2.3.x (should work with older versions, but only tested with 2.3.0.5)

2.3 Release Almost Ready!

The next release of Pro_News - version 2.3 - is out for what may well be its final test before release.

As well as all the planned features, a number of new tweaks and improvements have be added to improve the overall usability of Pro_News. Things Admins will like, e.g. if there are no articles to display in a Section/Category it will now tell you, as Admin, which Section and which Category. And you can go directly to any Section or Category from the Admin > Pro_News > Category screen without having to redisplay from the Home or Pro_News page. Plus many others.

Bigger enhancements are correctly sized mini "icon" displays in Headlines, support for default images per Section to avoid the blank "No image" displays, new table-free Headline templates for Headlines - which should improve the display particularly for those CSS-challenged browsers like IE.

There will be a couple of minor upgrade steps needed for those of you using Headlines to generate the new icon images, but it had to be changed/improved.

Pro_News 2.3 BETA Released for Test

Calling all Beta testers, the Pro_News 2.3 Beta initial release is finally in the Downloads section.

This release is currently limited to the Beta Testers group only, for download. But by all means take a look at the description to see what features are going to become available.

I think you will agree that some of these features will greatly extend the applicability and usability of Pro_News.

Build a whole website with just Pro_News and the standard DF features? I think that should now be very much possible.

Code Freeze on Pro_News 2.3.0.0

I believe that we are now code complete on the next release of Pro_News: Pro_News 2.3.

Significant changes to Pro_News will make things much easier for admins. For example, the ability to specify a display order separately for each Section, means that the long term goal of being able to use Pro_News for all posts and articles on a site can finally be attained. Latest News can be displayed in latest-first, while reference articles can be displayed in alpha order.

More details as soon a basic testing is complete and this site is updated to 2.3.

Beta testers start making preparations for testing please!

Pro_News 2.2.0.0 Released!

Here it is, come get it! The latest version of Pro_News has been released.

The main features of this release really complete the News-compatibility part. After many, many requests I've added Email a Friend and Printer Friendly formatting, equivalent to that of Dragonfly News, plus the often requested Scheduled Article, plus - wait for it - Scheduled Deactivate!

Plus I've included a link to the full article template suitable for hooks into Digg, etc. See the Community Forum here for info on using this.
